Mainland China
1. Foxconn – the world's largest electronics contractor, opened a US$2bn plant in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, to manufacture laptop computers. (Shanghai Daily).
2. Hyundai Motor Co - and a Chinese commercial vehicle maker, Sichuan Nanjun Automotive Group, will invest a combined 500bn won (US$443.6m) to build a plant in Sichuan Province, which marks its entry in this segment in the world's biggest auto market. (Shanghai Daily).
Hong Kong
1. The Hong Kong Tourism Board announced on Friday that a total of 2,728,107 visitor arrivals were recorded in September, up 21.2 percent from a year earlier. The agency’s figures showed mainland arrivals rose by 22.7 percent to more than 1.62 million in September. (China Daily)
2. Overall, home prices in the secondary market have jumped 47.9 per cent since January last year, prompting Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen to announce a string of measures to cool the housing market in his annual policy address. From October 14, applicants for the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme (CIES) - 79 per cent of these come from the mainland - are no longer able to use real estate as an investment category. The government has also raised the minimum investment under the scheme from HK$6.5 million to HK$10 million. The government plans to offer enough sites to build 20,000 private flats a year. It also plans to build 5,000 small and medium flats under a scheme called "My home purchase plan" and lease them to eligible applicants at market rents for up to five years. (South China Morning Post)
